Black Box Consulting is an independent contemporary art consultancy providing specialist curatorial, editorial and artist-development support to artists, galleries and cultural organisations in South Africa and internationally.

Founded by British/South African artist, curator and publisher Alastair Whitton, Black Box draws on more than three decades of experience in contemporary art, exhibitions, publishing, artist development and the international art market.

Working collaboratively and on a project-specific basis, Black Box provides an experienced external resource for curatorial research, critical writing, publications, artist positioning and the development and presentation of artistic practices.

Its approach is informed by a commitment to thoughtful engagement, intellectual rigour and the individual character of each artist's practice.

Based in Cape Town, South Africa, Black Box works with artists, galleries and cultural organisations internationally through remote, project-based collaborations. In-person consultations, studio visits and gallery meetings are available in Cape Town, with international on-site engagement considered on a project-specific basis.
